History of Trench Warfare
The Civil War
Accoding to Britannica, "The trench lines of the Petersburg–Richmond theatre of operations in the final months of that war were the foremost example of trench warfare in the 19th century."
World War I
Germany had a march to Paris. That about where German troops met with British and French troops. They started digging trenches for protection. These trenches kept going to the North Sea coast of Belgium southward through France to Switzerland. This was called the Race to the Sea.
World War II
People in wars after WWI didn’t use trenches or used trenches not as significantly as in WWI. In WWII they advanced in war so they did not have time to dig trenches.
Now
Trenches have been used in other wars but along the years they have changed drastically. They went from long strategic pathways to now they are just big circles in the ground.
